In
the distance between the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea
border and the southern slopes of the Zagros and Makran
mountains, lay plains with special characteristics. The
weather in this region is very
hot, and although the amount of rainfall is not
high, the humidity of the air in most
places is very high. The
Scenery of the region recalls that of African savannas, and
the region’s floral elements with African and oriental
origin correspond to this. The Flora consist of heat-loving
plants with high susceptibility to cold, and therefore they
can only be seen in this part of Iran. Trees like date
palms, Acaciae, Ziziphus, Prosopis and ... are of the
most common species here, and there still exist some dense
woodlands of these trees. In the eastern parts of this area,
namely the shores of Oman sea, conjunction of Nannorhops
ritchieana or mazari palms have created forests in the
valleys. But one of the most beautiful attractions of this
area are the marine Mangrove forests, the best habitat for
wetland birds from the tropics, and consisting of two species of
Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina trees.
Water covers these forests once a day, and then they reappear
from under the sea. Shrimps and many kinds of fish ovipositor in these
forests.

The bird fauna of this region is also influenced by Indian and
African elements. Sunbirds, Rollers, Mynah, little green
Heron, Grey Hypocolius and the little green bee-eater are a
few examples. Some of the beautiful small islands around the
area like Kish and Gheshm are inhabited and some others like
Shidvar and Nakhiloo are uninhabited. At the end of spring,
thousands of seabirds lay their eggs on each
of these islands, creating an unforgettable scene for every
visitor.
The
mammal fauna of the area is close to that of the Central
Plateau. Goitred gazelle and Jebeer are common on the
islands and the coastal plains, and panther and wild sheep
and wild goat live in the neighboring mountains. Also Hyena,
Fox and Jackal can be seen everywhere. The Black bear,
Mongoose and the Baluchi Palm squirrel are endemic species
to the east of this zone.
These
coasts and islands are the best ovipositor places for three
species of sea turtles, among which the eagle turtle is the
most common. The Persian Crocodile is among other important
reptiles of the region, which is found in only one river
known as “Bahukalat” in the easternmost portion of the
southern plains.
The people of this region, like it’s nature, are
influenced by different races, in the western parts Arabs
have been more influential
and in the east, Indians and Pakistanis. The occupation of
these people is mainly trades with the United
Arab Emirates and
other Persian Gulf countries. |
